Kitchen Design Trends for 2026
Kitchen design might be my favorite part of the house to think about.
For a while, kitchens were designed to look almost like showpieces — very polished, very perfect, sometimes a little… untouchable. What I’m seeing now is kitchens starting to feel warmer, more personal, and more lived in.
Here are a few things showing up more and more in beautiful kitchens right now:
Mixed Materials (Less “Matchy-Matchy”)
Instead of everything being the same finish, designers are layering materials — wood islands with painted cabinets, mixed metals, and natural stone with movement and texture. The result feels more collected and interesting.
Statement Stone
Countertops and backsplashes are getting a little bolder. Instead of very quiet patterns, we’re seeing beautiful natural stone with veining that becomes part of the personality of the kitchen.
Warm Woods Returning
After years of cooler gray tones, warmer woods are finding their way back into kitchens — bringing depth, texture, and warmth into the space.
Lighting That Feels Intentional
Lighting is finally getting the attention it deserves. Layered lighting — pendants, under-cabinet lighting, and soft ambient light — helps a kitchen feel welcoming instead of overly bright.
The “Unfitted Kitchen” Look
This is one of my favorite shifts happening right now. Instead of every cabinet being built-in and perfectly symmetrical, kitchens are starting to include pieces that feel more like furniture — a beautiful hutch, open shelving, or a standalone pantry cabinet. It adds personality and makes the kitchen feel like part of the home rather than just cabinetry.
More than anything, kitchens are being designed around how people actually live — coffee stations, hidden appliance garages, walk-in pantries, and islands where people naturally gather. To me, the best kitchens are the ones that feel both beautiful and incredibly functional — the kind of space where people naturally want to stay and linger.
