Looking through A Designer’s Lens

One of the questions I often think about when walking through a home with buyers is not just what the space could become, but whether the improvements needed will still fit comfortably within their budget.  Sometimes buyers fall in love with a neighborhood or location, but the home itself needs updates — things like flooring, paint, lighting, or even kitchen and bathroom improvements.  Those changes can absolutely transform a home, but it’s important to look at the whole picture.  A big part of my role is helping buyers think through questions like: If we purchase this home, will there still be room in the budget to make the updates that matter most?

• Which improvements will have the biggest impact on how the home lives day to day?

• And does the neighborhood support the investment you may want to make in the home?

Sometimes a home that needs a little work can actually be a great opportunity — especially if it allows buyers to get into a neighborhood they love and slowly make the space their own.

The key is making sure the vision for the home and the numbers behind it both make sense.
